Crowns
The crown is the part of the tooth that rises above the gums, but it is also a type of dental restoration that caps or encircles a natural tooth or implant. Crowns improve aesthetic appeal, but they also help to reinforce the tooth.
When is a crown needed?
If the dental cavity is small, and if after having cleaned the cavity, the structure of the tooth can still withstand it, the dentist simply fills the cavity using an amalgam, resin or composite filling. However, should the tooth now be too thin, the dental structure too fragile or too weak after a root canal, the usual dental restorations will not suffice. A crown will have to be placed.
Your dentist can evaluate your situation and will help you choose the most appropriate solution for your problem.
How is a crown made?
Previously, crowns could only be milled in a laboratory – requiring patients to make two visits. At our clinic, we use the German-made CEREC technology. In just one visit, we can make a digital imprint of your tooth, have the crown milled right before your eyes and place it immediately. You save time and the quality of the crown is unrivalled.
